DYNAMENE STATION, NOVAYA ZEMLYA
DX Nihilum Preliminary Level Design

Level Prototype Design:
-----------------------

The final levels of the mod would be set in Dynamene. Before the mission, the player has allied either with MJ12, the Black Widow or the indeterminates (including Yakedo, Elias Nadel, possibly Lien Takara) but no matter what, the player has to enter Dynamene in order to stop Alexia Novikov from unleashing the ultimate nanotech virus. However, inside the facility the player will also be given the choice of joining with Novikov and configuring the machinery into her cause.

Before Ingram's arrival, Novikov unleashes a protective agent over the island that practically kills everyone trying to get there. Agent Ingram is chosen for the mission because he is able to withstand this agent due to his nano-augmentation, and trying to dissolve the agent or postponing the mission would take too much time. If the player is allied with MJ12, not only he has to eliminate Novikov but also launch nuclear missions in to locations defined by Page... obviously them being of importance to the Black Widow and such. If the player is allied with the Black Widow, well, something! The indeterminates urge agent Ingram to detonate the nuclear warheads and leave by the underground supertrains. Or something.

Purpose:
--------
(PROTOTYPE DESIGN)

Originally a stockpile of nuclear weapons, Dynamene Station became a vital part of Alexia Novikov's masterplan aimed to unleash a highly devastating nanotechnological agent over the world to provide her the ideal tools for maintaining control over the world. The station is comprised of several sections.

1) Nuclear Warhead Storage Unit:
A nuclear warhead battery comprised of the 400 nuclear warheads moved there by the Illuminati in the 1980s
2) Selected Individuals Unit:
Cryogenic storage for the individuals chosen by Novikov to take control of the cleansed world when the time comes
3) Substance Dispenser Unit
The unit responsible for filling the nanotechnological warheads with the provided substance (e.g. nanotechnological agent)

Backstory:
----------

A decade before the downfall of the Soviet Union, a Soviet general - and a member of the Illuminati - called Dmitri Chenov foresaw that the Illuminati's experiment of socialism was heading towards its demise in the country. Reaching agreement with some other Russian members of the Illuminati, they orchestrated a large-scale stealth operation of transferring 50 nuclear warheads to a secret facility in Novaya Zemlya in case they needed them to retaliate during the inevitable chaos that would occur as the system was crumbling down on the people. In 1988 these operations ceased when the island was opened to the public once again but by this time over 400 warheads had already been moved to the facility. While the Illuminati was losing its grasp over Russia, their facility - now called Station Chenov - in Novaya Zemlya became one of their last assets, heavily guarded and maintained with efficiency.

Time was not on their side. As Russia plunged into post-Soviet economical, political and social disarray, a lot of the communist state's former assets were acquired by the Russian Mafia, emerging business oligarchs and foreign investors. Sometime after the year 2000 it became clear that Russia was indeed the playground of these factions bickering for more power and the Russian government was either unable to act against them or was kept under their control. At the same time the Illuminati itself was in the point of disintegration as MJ12 was taking over most of its international assets, the rest falling to the Black Widow and its power over Russia diminishing gradually. Station Chenov was unable to get new resources and people assigned there had no higher authorities to respond to. Some of the crew members left while some stayed behind to maintain the warheads as best as they could.

This came to an end in the 2010s when a taskforce formed by reactionary environmental activists and a warship splintered from the neglected and corrupted Russian Northern Fleet arrived at the island. People aboard the ship were aware of Station Chenov and were planning to take over the facility. The activists had a plan to use the warheads against the rest of the world as a retribution for the socialist and capitalist abuse the Earth had faced in the 20th century. The on-island radar installation of Station Chenov had become unusable some time earlier and the remaining personnel were unable to fight back against the invaders. With Station Chenov under their control, the new lords of the island evaluated its assets and realized that the warheads were in desperate need of proper maintenance and that the station itself was horribly outdated as well. The activists and rogue military personnel were unable to reach a compromise on what to do with the warheads, as the latter wanted to take the warheads away from the island and sell to the highest bidders, while the activists wanted to carry out their plan but restore the warheads to make them usable again.

The legacy of Chenov was also known by XVA-Communications who were planning to acquire the nuclear stockpile in Novaya Zemlya at some point. At the time they didn't possess the necessary influence over the military so no definite plan of taking Station Chenov into their control had been made. A XVA-Com station at Barents Sea registered a transmission sent from a military vessel docked to the island. XVA decide to increase their monitoring of communications from the island and confirmed their suspicions that the island had indeed been taken over by rogues who were planning to use the warheads for a malignant cause. Instead of a paramilitary operation, XVA-Communications commissioned a chemical agent that would utilize the island's polluted status and spread out very quickly to the people there. The agent was successful but later evaluations proved that it was still effective on the island and needed a counter-agent in order for the island's air to be neutralized. However, such process was never commissioned by XVA which would only prove useful for their cause in the future.

Finally in the mid-2030s XVA-Com under Alexia Novikov was underway on a daring project that would shape the corporation's agenda for the following decades. This plan involved the acquisition and restoration of the nuclear warheads stored at Station Chenov. A taskforce supplied with heavy anti-radiation and other protective gear entered the island and evaluated the facility as well as the warheads. Not only a new facility had to be built but all the warheads had to be re-assembled as well. This led to the construction of the first section of a new station that stored the new high-tech nuclear warheads deep underground in a system that would be able to load and fire them in an extremely short time. The enlargement of the station would occur after Novikov's most daring project to that date, an underground/deep-sea network enabling easy and fast travel inside Russia albeit many feet underground. When concerns over MJ12's agenda were first manifested, it was decided that this system should also extend to certain military locations allowing the quick transfer of certain materials.
