"What are you talking about? How do I shut this off?" Tiberius turned his head every which way as he yelled out, not knowing if Carson could even hear him.

"I have said nothing," said the translator, who stood back and stared bewildered at Agent Tiberius. "Who are you talking to?"

"Carson...In my head...There's..." he trailed off, not quite knowing how to explain his current state of mind.

"Focus, Agent. Concentrate," said the voice. "The light can be turned on and off at your will, like a light bulb with a chain. You just have to know what chain to pull."

Tiberius gathered his wits together and concentrated once more on the light. He closed his eyes and thought of the darkness, of seeing nothing. He focused on his normal vision, and the crawling sensation died down. When it had passed, he opened his eyes and saw that the light had gone out.

"Good, Agent. You've turned it off," said Carson. "It is difficult now, but in time you will learn how to activate and deactivate your augmentations at will. They all work along the same lines. Practice and patience are your friends here."

Tiberius looked up at the translator. Neither spoke for some time. After a moment, Tiberius pulled himself up to his feet and brushed himself off a little. He merely nodded to the translator, who could not even begin to comprehend what he had just witnessed. Once he finally gave up trying to speak, the two began to walk. Whatever it was that had moved, it was gone now.

A long time passed before another word was spoken. Tiberius felt that they must have been traveling deeper into the city, since now there were people about, though not that many at such a late hour. Some were keeping warm by standing around barrels that contained burning debris. Others seemed lost, dressed as though they belonged in a boardroom or five-star hotel, but had found themselves on the streets instead. Every so often there was a single streetlight illuminated. Tiberius jumped a bit when Carson explained this to him.
