"Time to go, Arthur. It's time." Arthur approached the terminal next to him. They paused, then put their hands on the keyboards in front of them. They typed simultaneously, and at the terminal near Tom, a small panel slid away, revealing another golden key. Tom's hand reached for the key, and began to turn it.

It turned 30 degrees, then clicked into position. The lights flickered and then went back on.

"Thirty seconds for hard shutdown." Tom commented. They waited, and after the 30 seconds the lights flickered again, and then came back to full brightness. Tom turned the key another 30 degrees. The lights completely failed, and emergency power engaged. The computer terminal still glowed in front of them. The key turned another 30 degrees, and the emergency lighting went dark. The room was lit only by a handful of lighted indicators and the CRT in front of them. Tom turned to Arthur, and handed him the key he had.

"Remember- a sacred trust. May god help those who bring back this power, I hope that it will not be for something sinister." Arthur took the key, and Tom turned the key another 30 degrees. The room went completely dark. A ratcheting sound filled the room, as the key was removed from its receptacle.

"Goodnight, California." Tom said.
