<JC>Chapter 2: Discussion Boards

Account, n.

An account is a membership to the forums, which allows you certain privileges over unregistered guests. In some forums, it is not possible to participate without making an account first. Accounts are usually free, but access to some parts of the forums may require further privileges than those granted by a normal account.

<DC=128,128,128>[Scribbled in the margin] If you kill somebody in Forum City, you'll destroy their account. This means they have to start all over, which is sort of like being reincarnated. Most members (and especially the distinguished ones) would rather not have to start all over with a new account.

Administrator, n.

Often referred to as an admin. An individual with absolute authority over a given forum. Has the power to ban people from the boards, edit their accounts, manipulate posts in all possible ways and appoint moderators with similar, if somewhat less, authority. Often, the admin of a board also has FTP access to the server on which the boards are located.

Avatar, n.

An avatar is the physical representation of a member of a board. The longer a member stays in the forums, the more impressive and powerful his avatar will become. A true veteran of a board is sometimes easily spotted on his awe-inspiring avatar, but often a veteran member will choose a slightly more discreet appearance to hide his true power.
