WeaponLord for Deus Ex, an Unreal Engine-powered game, by Parser of the Fraghouse Mod Team.

A brief introduction
Those of you who have been following the progress of Fraghouse throughout the past year will probably realise that the WeaponLord mod has been released for Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2003 and Unreal 2. Now Deus Ex can be proudly added to that list. We hope you enjoy the new weaponary and various items provided in this new mod.
Right, enough of the insane, over-formal blabble! Onto the rundown!
Using the mod and its contents
Now, unless new maps are designed with the mod in mind, there isn't much chance of stumbling across any of the new weaponary in a normal game of Deus Ex, so you have to summon the equipment in. Here's how to do it (the easy way):
Find the shortcut to your Deus Ex executable, which is usually in the Start Menu unless you had a fit with the mouse and moved it somewhere else. Now, open up the Properties box (by right clicking in versions of Windows 98 and above) and locate the Shortcut Target. It should read something not to dissimilar from:
D:\DeusEx\DeusEx.exe
Note that your paths may vary. All we are going to do is add one simple parameter onto the end. That's all, I promise! You should make the target path look like this:
D:\DeusEx\DeusEx.exe -hax0r
Right, that's cheat mode active. But hang on. How do we get to the console to input the cheats? Aha.
Locate your Deus Ex folder on your hard drive somewhere (watch out for the porn folder), and open up the System folder. Now locate User.ini and double-click on it to edit it in the program of your choice (I favour Notepad to Microsoft Word...). Find the line entry where it says:
t=
And make it read:
t=say
Phew! That's the complicated bit done with. Now, assuming you've unzipped this readme and WeaponLord.u to the System folder (do that now, if you haven't already), open up DeusEx.ini, and find the lines that read EditPackages=
Add one more line to the end that reads:
EditPackages=WeaponLord
NOW you can actually start the damn game! (NB, I don't know why it's necessary to add the .u file to EditPackages, you never had to with UT, but hey, it's what everyone else tells you to do.)
Once you're in the game, hit T and you will see a small dialog with Say "" written on it. Delete the Say command and you're ready to type in the summon command for the weapons and ammo! Simply use this syntax:
Summon PackageName.PackageClass
In this case, you'll be replacing PackageName with WeaponLord and PackageClass with the weapon strings given below. Have fun!
Weaponary
Without giving any clues away, the mod wasn't given its name for no apparent reason. Here's a complete list of all the weapons, how they function and their summon strings.
Bartok Shotgun - The Bartok Shotgun is a faster, more damaging version of the standard Assault Shotgun. The great thing about it is that it can accept GEP rocket ammo, so you can fire 3 rockets at once.
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLBartok
EMP Knife - This was one of the simplest and best suggestions ever (see credits list), and it's so damn funky. Take your standard throwing knife, and give it the capability to disable electronic components from a distance. Win. Beware that you can no longer damage ordinary targets like humans with them though.
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLEMPKnife
Ammo string - summon WeaponLord.WLEMPKnifeAmmo
Semtek Assault Rifle - The Semtek rifle is quite simply an automatic laser
rifle. It fires green energy beams at the standard machine gun rate.
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLSemtek
Hawk Rifle - The Hawk Rifle is a lightweight rifle (which keeps your aim steady) coupled with a high-standard silencer. Not only that, but it features a heat-seeking night vision scope and a fast loader for tense battle moments.
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLHawk
RPG (Rocket propelled grenade launcher) - The RPG utilises GEP gun ammo
to launch LAW missiles. Think of the LAW launcher, but not one-shot - you can
carry up to 20 rockets at once.
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLRPG
Small Nanotech Sword - My, my, this variation must have been done to death by now. Simply the Dragon's Tooth Sword, but it only occupies one slot in your inventory (like the rest of the weapons here, I hate overcrowded inventories too). The damage is also upped a tiny bit...
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLSmallNanoSword
Opus Handgun - The Opus handgun is a lethal, effective combat weapon, suited for both short and long range. The nightvision scope helps increase efficiency during night operations. However, it has one fatal flaw - it is not silenced.
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLOpus
Beam Trailer - A big, powerful heavy weapon but well worth its weight in damage, the Beam Trailer dispatches a bright blue, burning hot laser that scorches most targets.
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLBeamTrailer
C30 Handgun - The C30 is slightly similar to the Opus, except that it only features a normal zoom scope, and the reload time is slightly longer. However, it is in fact silenced, forming a compromise between the two weapons.
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLC30
Ammo string - summon WeaponLord.WLAmmoBeamTrailer
Fragmentation Grenade - The Frag grenade is a lightweight albeit highly destructive explosive that is by default set on a short fuse. Much quicker and more effective than a standard LAM.
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLFragGrenade
Fireball Grenade - Ouch, make sure you don't get caught in one of these. Following the nicely timed explosion, a compressed canister bursts into flames and creates a spread area that is lethal to anything that passes through it, including yourself. Please don't try and walk through it, because you'll die instantly.
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLFireGrenade
Throwing Crowbar - Half-Life probably inspired me the most with this one. It's your bog standard crowbar, except you can throw it and watch in glee as it sinks into the backs of your enemies. Hmm...
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLThrowingCrowbar
Ammo string - summon WeaponLord.WLAmmoCrowbar
Throwing Nano Sword - The Throwing Nano Sword is more or less similar to the Throwing Crowbar, except it's the nano sword you're throwing, complete with the lovely blue glow. :-D
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLThrowingNanoSword
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLAmmoNanoSword
Torcher - Imagine the power of the flamethrower in your back pocket.. this is what the Torcher offers - using the normal spray can, you can throw fire around without having to lug a huge weapon with it.
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLTorcher
Ammo string - summon WeaponLord.WLAmmoTorcher
Utility Gun - The Utility Gun can accept LAM and EMP ammo.. meaning you can carry both around, but they don't have to occupy your inventory because they are classified as Utility Gun ammo.
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLUtilityGun
EMP ammo string - summon WeaponLord.WLUtilityEMPAmmo
LAM ammo string - summon WeaponLord.WLUtilityLAMAmmo
War Knife - Sneak up on enemies and kill them in one blow, or just go mad and slash at everything. The War Knife can destroy pretty much anything in one blow, and it has an increased range.
Summon string - Summon WeaponLord.WLWarKnife
Pulveriser - The Pulveriser is an assault rifle which releases rockets at the rate of a machine gun, but with very dispersed accuracy. Lovely.
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLPulveriser
Extra stuff/information
Hot Foot Augmentation - I started playing around with the Augmentations, but I soon realised that getting them into the game (and into the player) was more complex, so it's still in there. Don't you dare play with it, I'm going to do something with it one day! ;-) (It basically speeds the player up and makes them silent at the same time).
Skull ball - Ever wanted to play basketball with a human skull? Summon one of these in and you can!
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLSkullBall
Tooled-up trooper - An MJ12 Corporal, equipped with a C30 handgun and a pocket Torcher. How about that? By the way, I don't think he likes you..
Summon string - summon WeaponLord.WLMJ12Corporal
File: The Summoning - Man, that was cheesy. Included in the package is a text file that you can unzip to your Deus Ex System folder. Once in-game, use the following command in the console to summon in all the weapons, ammo and the skull ball:
exec WeaponLordsummon.txt
Credits
Not many credits to give out here, since most of it was inspired by.. well, my own extremely imaginative mind (hah, yeah...).
Beerbaron - For the numerous weapon suggestions, including the EMP Knives and the Fireball Grenades. WeaponLord would definitely have been something less were it not for your valuable contributions.
Method of contact: Well, he hangs around the BeyondUnreal Forums, and he has a Deviant Art page, so go do your own detective work, heh.
You've hit the end of the readme.. congratulations, that means it's time for the copyright crap. :-D
WeaponLord is a copyright of Fraghouse - In other words, do not rip/steal, or your valuable parts will be fed to the rottweilers. Thank you. Back to the top
